Group Policy File System and Registry Rights Not Applying

I was having a problem at several sites whereby the file and registry permissions that I was trying to set with Group Policy were not applying correctly.

I had a related error in my application event log :

Security policies were propagated with warning. 0x4b8 : An extended error has occurred.

I found that deleting the contents of C:\Windows\security\database\*.* fixed the problem up a treat. Woohoo! No more using cacls scripts!
